Peleus Uhley and Karthik Raman (Adobe ASSET) Security Response in the Age of Mass Customized Attacks Traditional dumb security appliances are no longer effective in this day and age. Therefore, he suggests that defence companies have to step up their game and start offering better products.

Mining a large amount of data and spotting anomalies using developed-in-house software may be out of the budget and expertise of many companies. However, I guess this is a difficult problem. It seems that Edward has managed to implement such a system at RSA, which is a very impressive feat. This is where big data analysis comes in. We need to take into account events occurring on more areas of the network, and we need a way to consolidate all that data and build an agile defence system which can process and mine all that real time data for anomalies, with respect to past data. We need to embrace the unknown, the unpredictable and be prepared for it - we need to have a new approach to security.Įdward suggests that we need to start looking at more than just the traditional indicators of compromise. The gist of it was that we need to stop focusing all our efforts on just prevention, because we cannot predict the future – what are the future technologies, future bugs and the likes. I thought this was an interesting talk on network security.

Keynote - Embracing the Uncertainty of Advanced Attacks with Big Data Analytics Anyway, here is a summary of the talks I attended at the conference! Planning on going to HITB KL in the coming months, hopefully it works out. Really glad to have met everyone I talked to over at the in Amsterdam, especially Andrew (heyo!) and Hugo.
